Lorenzo Scala MSc, BSc (Hons) CMarSci CSci MIMarEST

Lorenzo graduated with a degree in marine biology at the University of Stirling in 2006. He completed his masters at the University of Aberdeen in 2008 where he developed non-invasive techniques for mapping deep-water benthic habitats to assist in the management of North Sea fisheries. 


Lorenzo has worked as a marine consultant to the offshore industry and renewables sector in the roles of PAM operator and MMO for several years. He is now a lead offshore technician and member of the Bioscience Group at Seiche Ltd, providing technical support for acoustic systems and offshore operators. He has specific expertise in the installation, maintenance and deployment of acoustic hydrophone systems on seismic surveys, offshore piling and explosives decommissioning projects. He also has experience in baseline environmental monitoring, sound source verification (SSV) surveys and installing infra-red camera monitoring systems for detection of marine mammals. Lorenzo also delivers Seiche Training PAM Level 1 and Level 2 courses.


Throughout his career, Lorenzo has volunteered on several marine conservation initiatives in the UK and overseas. He has benefitted from participation in a variety of field work, including tropical coral biodiversity and monitoring in the Seychelles and long term population characteristics of whale sharks in the indian ocean. In Scotland, Lorenzo continues to volunteer with British Divers Marine Life Rescue and contributes written articles for a variety of professional magazines. In late 2008 he co-produced the documentary 'Whales of Patagonia', and co-ordinated the running of Oceanus Explorers, which was the founding organisation which has since developed into Whalefish.
